Paris has been named the most attractive destination city in the world for another year, according to the annual report of the global market research company Euromonitor International.
Created in partnership with data company Lighthouse, the Top 100 City Destinations Index 2023 looked at top cities from around the world and ranked them according to criteria such as tourism, sustainability, economic performance, health and safety. Europe dominated with 7 of the top 10 cities and 63 countries in the top 100. The only non-European cities in the top ten were Dubai in 2nd place, Tokyo in 4th and New York in 8th.
Madrid came 3rd, while Amsterdam, Berlin and Rome came in 5th, 6th and 7th respectively. Barcelona and then London completed the top 10. Asia fared well in the top 20, with Singapore (11th), Seoul (14th), Osaka (16th) and Hong Kong (17th) making the list.

The report attributes Europe’s success to “rapid urbanization and widespread adoption of technology.” Travelers now want fast internet, flexible booking options and spaces to work remotely.
Tokyo entered the top ten for the first time, which the report said was due to improved tourism infrastructure, the easing of regulations related to COVID-19 and the weakening of the yen, which makes the city more affordable for internationals visitors.
There are four newcomers to the top 100, all boasting improved tourism performance this year: Washington (48th), Montreal (68th), Santiago (88th) and Vilnius (92nd).
Istanbul tops the list with the most international arrivals in 2023, followed by London and then Dubai.
