The EMY’s emergency bulletin is in effect from yesterday, Sunday 22/12
The rains and storms will be its main feature weather for today, Monday 23/12. Temperatures will be normal for the season, while winds will blow up to 8 Beaufort in the Aegean. It is in force since yesterday, Sunday 22/12 the EMY emergency report.
In more detail, initially local rains and sporadic storms are expected in the west, in Crete and in the eastern parts of the Aegean. Gradually, by noon, the phenomena will thicken, intensify and spread to the rest of the country. At noon in Epirus the effects will be very strong in places. Snowfalls will be noted initially in the mountainous continental regions and from the afternoon in Western Macedonia.
OR temperature in Western Macedonia it will range from -4 to 5 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from -3 to 11, in Thessaly from 0 to 13, in Epirus and Western Continent from 2 to 14, in the rest of Continent from 0 to 14 , in the Peloponnese from 2 to 15, in the Ionian Islands from 10 to 15, in the Northern and Eastern Aegean islands from 6 to 14, in the Cyclades from 7 to 15, in the Dodecanese from 12 to 15 and in Crete from 9 to 18 degrees Celsius.
The winds in the Central and Northern Aegean will initially blow from southwest directions 2 to 4 Beaufort, but from the morning they will become southerly 5 to 7 and locally up to 8 Beaufort. In the South Aegean the winds will initially blow from western directions 2 to 4 Beaufort, but from noon they will become southerly 5 to 7 Beaufort. In the Ionian, the winds will initially blow from the southwest 3 to 5 Beaufort, but from the morning they will strengthen and will locally reach 6 Beaufort, while from noon they will turn to the west 5 to 7 Beaufort.
In Attica clouds are expected, while rain and possibly storms will occur after noon. The winds will initially blow from western directions up to 3 Beaufort, but from the morning they will turn to southerly 3 to 5 and locally 6 Beaufort, while in the evening they will become southwesterly 3 to 5 Beaufort. The temperature in the center of Athens will range from 7 to 14 degrees Celsius.
In the prefecture Thessaloniki clouds are expected while rain will occur from noon. Winds will initially blow from easterly directions up to 3 Beaufort and from morning 4 to 6 Beaufort. From the afternoon the winds will become south 3 to 5 Beaufort and towards evening southwest 2 to 4 Beaufort. The temperature in the center of Thessaloniki will range from 4 to 11 degrees Celsius.
As the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection mentioned, Vassilis Kikilias today, Monday, rains and locally strong storms are expected in north-western Greece and on Tuesday in Thrace, in the islands of the Eastern Aegean up to Crete.
“Our recommendation is strong, throughout the holidays, to carry snow chains if you are traveling mainly in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas. Take care and enjoy the holidays you and your families. Happy birthday!”, noted the minister.
In particular, according to the Emergency Deterioration of Weather Bulletin issued by the National Meteorological Service, the weather will deteriorate today Monday and Tuesday with locally heavy rains, storms mainly in the sea and coastal areas, locally stormy winds in the seas, snowfall in the mountains and temporary in semi-mountainous areas of central and northern Greece, mainly in the northwest.
Specifically:
A. On Monday (23-12-2024) heavy rains and coastal storms are predicted:
1. Initially in the northwest (northern Ionian, Epirus) and quickly in western Sterea, the rest of the Ionian and western Peloponnese. In the evening from the northwest the effects will weaken.
2. From the afternoon in eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands of the Eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and Crete (mainly the west and the south). From midday on Tuesday (24-12-2024) the phenomena will be limited to the Dodecanese and will weaken.
B. On Monday (23-12-2024) locally in the Ionian and after noon locally in the Aegean, stormy south southwest winds will blow.
C. Snowfall will occur on Monday (23-12-2024) in the mountainous continental trunk, locally and in the semi-mountains of the central and northern country, which will temporarily be dense mainly in western Macedonia. The snowfall will continue on Tuesday (24-12-2024) with decreasing intensity mainly from noon onwards.

MACEDONIA, THRACE
Weather: Clouds with local rains, initially in western Macedonia and gradually in the rest of the regions. Storms will occur in the sea and coastal areas. The phenomena in eastern Macedonia and Thrace from the afternoon will be locally intense. Snowfall will occur in the mountains and in western Macedonia and in semi-eastern areas until noon, temporarily dense.
Winds: From southern directions 3 to 5 and gradually to the east 6 and from the evening locally 7 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 02 to 13 degrees Celsius. In western Macedonia 4 to 6 degrees lower.
IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIROS, WEST STEREA, WEST PELOPONNISOS
Weather: Clouds with locally heavy rains and sea-coastal storms initially in the northwest and gradually in the rest. From the evening and from the northwest weakening of the phenomena. Snowfall will occur in the mountains and temporarily in semi-mountainous areas of Epirus.
Winds: Southwesterly 6 to 7 and in the Ionian to 8 Beaufort, from the afternoon they will turn to west northwesterly and weaken.
Temperature: From 05 to 17 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus 4 to 5 degrees lower.
EASTERN STEREA, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNISOS
Weather: A few clouds that will quickly increase and there will be local rain and in the south marine – coastal storms. Snowfall will occur in the mountains of central Sterea.
Winds: Southwest 5 to 7 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 07 to 17 degrees Celsius.
CYCLADES, CRETE
Weather: A few clouds that will gradually increase and there will be local rain and storms. The effects from the afternoon will be locally intense in Crete (mainly west and south).
Winds: Southwesters 5 to 6 and from afternoon 7 and possibly locally 8 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 12 to 19 degrees Celsius.
EAST AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANISE
Weather: Clouds temporarily increased with local rains and storms. The effects from the afternoon will be locally strong.
Winds: South southwest 5 to 6 and from the afternoon 6 to 7 and in the islands of the eastern Aegean locally 8 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 14 to 19 degrees Celsius. In the north 3 to 4 degrees lower.
THESSALY
Weather: A few clouds that will quickly increase and there will be local rains in the mountains and temporary local snowfalls in the semi-mountains.
Winds: South southwest 3 to 5 and in the Sporades 5 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 04 to 14 degrees Celsius.
ATTICA
Weather: A few clouds that will quickly increase. From midday there will be local rains and in the afternoon there will be a marine – coastal temporary storm.
Winds: South southwest 4 to 5 Beaufort, from noon 5 to 6 and in the east to 7 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 08 to 17 degrees Celsius.
THESSALONIKI
Weather: Clouds temporarily increased with local rain from noon.
Winds: South southeast 3 to 5 fair in the afternoon to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 04 to 12 degrees Celsius.
COME ON: Be careful when traveling due to worsening weather
On the occasion of the impending deterioration of the weather conditions throughout the territory, the Headquarters of the Greek Police issued a notice where it recommends to the citizens and especially to the drivers, who live or are going to move in areas of the territory where the weather phenomena are expected to extend/intensify, to be especially careful in their movements and to be equipped with anti-slip chains.
At the same time, it calls on drivers to comply with the instructions of the traffic controllers and in any case to be informed about the weather and the condition of the road network.
In any case, it is reminded that updated information on traffic disruptions as well as useful advice on road safety, due to bad weather and severe weather phenomena, are available in a special banner on the website of the Hellenic Police (www.astynomia.gr).
FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, TUESDAY 24-12-2024 (CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY)
In the western country, the northeastern mainland, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese, the Cyclades and Crete, clouds with rain and sporadic storms. The effects in the morning will be locally strong in the northeastern continental areas, the eastern parts of the Aegean and Crete. In the rest of the country, unsettled weather with local rains.
Snowfall will occur in the mountains of the mainland and temporarily in the mountains of Crete and in semi-mountainous areas of Macedonia.
Winds will blow from west directions 4 to 6 temps in the seas locally 7 Beaufort, which gradually in the central and north will turn to northerlies.
The temperature will drop, mainly in the west, the center and the north where it will not exceed 09 to 12 degrees (in the northwest 06 to 08), while in the rest of the regions it will reach 12 to 15 and in the southeastern island country 16 to 17 degrees Celsius. In the morning and evening hours there will be frost in places in the central and northern continental areas, locally strong in the northwest.
FORECAST FOR WEDNESDAY 25-12-2024 (CHRISTMAS)
In the eastern and southern mainland and the Aegean, intermittently increased clouds with local rains and in the southern sea storms. Local snowfalls will occur in the mountains of the mainland, Evia and Crete and temporarily in semi-mountainous areas of the northern country.
In the rest of the country, a few clouds temporarily increased.
Visibility in the morning hours in the western continental areas will be locally limited.
Winds will blow north northeast 4 to 6, while in the southeast they will be variable 4 Beaufort.
The temperature will see a slight further drop mainly in the eastern continental areas and the Aegean. In the central and northern areas it will not exceed 08 to 11 degrees and in the rest of the regions 12 to 14 degrees, while in the southeastern island country it will reach 15 to 16 degrees Celsius. In the morning and evening hours there will be frost in places on the mainland, locally strong in the northwest.

In the eastern mainland and the Aegean at intervals increased clouds with local rains and in the south sea storms. Local snowfall will occur in the continental highlands and temporary in the northern semi-mountains.
In the western country few clouds temporarily increased.
The winds will be north northeast 4 to 6, locally in the eastern continental and Aegean 7 Beaufort, while in the southeast they will be variable 4 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change appreciably. In the morning and evening hours there will be frost in places on the mainland, locally strong in the northwest.

In the eastern mainland and the Aegean at intervals increased clouds with local rains and in the south sea storms. Snowfall will occur in the continental highlands and temporary in the northern semi-mountains.
In the western country temporarily increased cloudiness mainly in the continental areas where temporary local rains may occur.
The winds will be north northeast, in the west 4 to 6, in the east 5 to 7 and in the Aegean 8 Beaufort, while in the southeast it will be variable 4 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change appreciably. In the morning and evening hours there will be frost in places on the mainland.
