Vassilis Karras’ close partner and friend for four decades, the maestro Yiannis Giuras, revealed to MEGA what the great singer had told him when he discovered that he was suffering from a serious health problem.
“Today was a very difficult day, charged, because we lost our father, our brother, our partner, our friend. As time passes, the sadness becomes greater, because we have him alive in our hearts,” he said. The conductor described Vassilis Karras as a giving person, who “until the last moment did not show that he was having a hard time and that there was a chance he would leave”.
“He said to me, ‘Master, I’m not chewing anything. I’ll get over it, in a month I’ll be standing up, I’ll be walking. Don’t worry about anything.’ He wanted us to remember him as strong, dignified and lordly, as the world calls him.” He then revealed the background behind Vassilis Karras’ concert in Heraklion, Crete, where he felt dizzy and had to be admitted to Venizelio Hospital. “We were in a packed shop. His blood count had dropped and he could not stand up. They took him to the hospital, added blood, and he came back and pulled through the night like nothing happened. He apologized to the people because he was tired.
