The new fee is imposed on accommodation and will ultimately be borne by the consumer
The new Airbnb short-term rental tax plan introduces a new climate resilience tax levied on tourist accommodation based on daily use and type of accommodation.
The amount of the fee can reach 15 euros per night, depending on the type and category of accommodation.
For the period from April to October, the taxes are as follows:
- For 1-2 star hotels: 2 euros,
- For 3-star hotels: 5 euros,
- For 4-star hotels: 10 euros,
- For 5-star hotels: 15 euros,
- For rented furnished rooms/apartments: 2 euros,
- For properties through short-term rental: 8 euros,
- For detached houses over 80 sq.m. available through short-term rental: 15 euros,
- For tourist furnished mansions (villas): 15 euros,
- For furnished tourist homes with an area of less than 80 sq.m.: 8 euros and over 80 sq.m.: 15 euros.
For the period November to March, the fees are reduced and structured as follows:
- For 1-2 star hotels: 0.5 euros,
- For 3-star hotels: 1.5 euros,
- For 4-star hotels: 3 euros,
- For 5-star hotels: 4 euros,
- For rented furnished rooms/apartments: 0.5 euros,
- For properties through short-term rental: 2 euros,
- For detached houses over 80 sq.m.: 4 euros,
- For tourist furnished mansions (villas): 4 euros,
- For furnished tourist homes with an area under 80 sq.m.: 2 euros and over 80 sq.m.: 4 euros.
The revenue from the imposition of this fee will be used to finance projects related to the prevention and recovery of natural disasters, adaptation to climate change and the improvement of infrastructure that supports the country’s tourism sector.
